Six appointments to learn about Circeo and the Samfix project - Life Samfix
Latest News

This summer at the Circeo National Park, all nature lovers will get to know a small insect that lives in our area: the xylosandrus. This insect was imported from Asia and is now permanently stationed in our area. With the help of experts, I can all become a “Samfix agent”, thus making an active contribution to the fight against this unwanted guest. The Samfix project, of which the Park is coordinator, concerns the identification and observation of the effects of some particular pests on plants. In 2016, the first important outbreak of Xylosandrus compactus and Xylosandrus crassiusculus were discovered in the Park, beetles that host symbiotic fungi and dig tunnels in young branches and tree trunks causing wilting, deformation, breakage and general decline with consequent widespread desiccation of the Mediterranean scrub. Parco del Circeo has organized six free appointments that include a visit to the museum and the Samfix corner, recognition of damage to vegetation, a walk in the forest in search of traps and control and finally some notes on the recognition of Mediterranean vegetation.

All appointments will start from the park museum at 5.30 pm.
